Guest speaker Iacob Gammeltoft presented on EUDR and answered questions from the audience. The session offered important insights into the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its implications for the supply chain ahead of the enforcement date on 1st January 2026.

Highlights

  • - The webinar addresses the complexities of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its implications for publishers, printers, and distributors.

  • - Jakob Gammeltoft, Senior Policy Manager at News Media Europe, presents insights on the EUDR, emphasizing the need for clarity in understanding obligations.

  • - The EUDR aims to ensure responsibility, accountability, and traceability in supply chains, particularly concerning paper products.

  • - Downstream operators, such as publishers and printers, face fewer obligations compared to upstream operators, which simplifies compliance for them.

  • - Companies must ensure that the paper they purchase is covered by a Due Diligence Statement (DDS) and maintain records for five years.

  • - The EUDR distinguishes between operators and traders based on whether they transform products, affecting their obligations under the regulation.

  • - Certain service providers, like printers and distributors, may fall outside the scope of the EUDR if they do not take ownership of the products.

  • - The webinar discusses the importance of consolidating DDS for multiple shipments to streamline compliance processes.

  • - Smaller publishers (SMEs) benefit from reduced obligations under the EUDR, and they can appoint authorized representatives to manage compliance.

  • - The EUDR requires that DDS be filed before products are sold, and companies are encouraged to update their DDS with each new shipment of paper.

  • - The European Commission is open to proposals for simplification of the EUDR, and companies are encouraged to engage with trade bodies and the Commission directly for advocacy.
